pentagrammaton: part i, introduction

This work is far too important to conceal behind the Institute’s private forums, so I present it here for the public to reference and utilize it. In published works, please attribute it to m1thr0s 729 and Izi Ningishzidda, of The Abrahadabra Institute.

5-Line Structures are known as Pentagrams. There are exactly 32 Pentagrammal Structures corresponding to the 32 Paths of Wisdom in the Tree of Life so it is very important to know about them, even though so little is known about them generally. I discovered them early on in the formation of the Mutational Alchemy Tarot, and with a ton of help from m1thr0s, developed them more systematically about 3 years later. The Mutational Alchemy model, and indeed, the MAT itself, is enormous, and it took that long just to properly attend to the discovery while we sorted through the other weighty tasks, such as the new doctrine of the Hidden Diamond Sutra and the differences between the Primordials and Temporals in the doctrine of the Twin Trees, which is the master formula of Mutational Alchemy.

The discovery of Pentagrammaton was one of the most exciting experiences I have ever had. Uncovering new occult thesis no one in the world has ever published is one of the most romantic things a Magus can hope to achieve in their lifetime. All of our members who continue on to become Mutational Alchemists lineaged to TAI will be required to make a declaration of their will and wyrd – the final rank we offer requires a thesis on an entirely new, undiscovered territory within the occult. The reason we demand this of our members is because there is a vast body of knowledge out there that has yet to be discovered. We will not consign ourselves to the current state of the occult which has found itself stagnating in the big three: sigil, goetia and spells.  I present these works at all not to impress members with our achievments – or even to provide instruction, although this is the primary objective, but to inspire one to the realization that they too can be a pioneer. We are The Abrahadabra Institute, the world’s premier research organization on cutting edge star thesis. Everyone who is a member of TAI should take on the attitude of an explorer, rather than a mere student, if one is to live up to our name and standards at all.

The discovery of Pentagrammaton and the Hidden Diamond Sutra both occurred during the lifetime of Abrahadabra Forums 1.0, and the way they were brought forward to m1thr0s and developed by him underlines the extreme importance of an organizational hub for this work. There is no possible way I could have developed this alone, and m1thr0s’ plate was already so full he couldn’t possibly step back and look at all angles with fresh eyes. So, as I have said before, and I will say again, “We are very interested in what is going on in your head.” There is no telling where the state of occultism can go when we take an exploratory attitude and begin working together.

Below are two sets of charts. The first two images illustrate what we call the Heaven Descending arrangement, in binary and then numeric form, respectively. The last two images illustrate Earth Ascending.

By the tarot attributions, the Pentagrams are classed into two main groups: major arcana and minor arcana. The major arcana pents begin at 11, and end at 32 while the minors begin at 1, and apply numerically one to one, for example, Pentagram 2 is assigned to any elemental card with the value of 2, such as 2 of Pentacles. The reason for this is that this is where the tarot is assigned to the paths of the Tree of Life. Eliphas Levi, a French occultist, was the first Hermetic Magus to map the tarot to the Tree of Life, at least in recorded history.

During our investigation of the Pents, as we had started referring to them, m1thr0s asked me what I wanted to name them, both generally and individually. I simply answered, “Well, Pentagrammaton. Isn’t that what they are? I’d rather keep it simple.” I looked at him for approval of course, as this is what one does with one’s teachers, especially if they are also a mate. Of course he was pleased with that simplicity. m1thr0s was a true minimalist, and any true minimalist, as any minimalist would tell you, is also someone who, seemingly paradoxically, loves technology (and by proxy, the creator of technology, Man) while also holding Nature in the highest esteem.

Students are given a metal disk by the O.T.O., something all neophytes get, and they are instructed to engrave it with a symbol of their Will, something meant to act upon the element of Earth. He just left it blank, and, it’s still like that to this day, although, since the 70’s it has also gathered a lovely patina of rusty speckles, the largest of which, no bigger than a grain of quinoa, exactly resembles a vivid, sinister looking, reptillian eye. The essence of who m1thr0s was, how he conducted himself as a Magus, and the way in which he built the foundation for The Abrahadabra Institute is summarized in this one curious artifact. There are the other four elemental tools of course, and they offer different insights, but we’re talking about Pentagrammaton here and there is a direct inference of something having to do with the element of Earth.  It is, perhaps, this respect for the sovereignty of the elements, of numbers and of pieces of Nature that sets TAI apart from all other magickal organizations, and allowed us to discover these hidden facets and bits of data from the “vault” where others had often walked right by them. “Universe is sufficient first cause unto itself” m1thr0s often reminded me – a quote from G.W. Leibniz, one of our culture heroes.

I went on to make sure we both agreed on the naming convention. “And they should just be called by their numbers or their description, “Fire of Heaven” or whatever” I finished. He agreed, and did not have any other suggestions for it. We were both pretty much on the same page, although it had not always been like that. I had to get rid of a lot of bad habits to synchronize with him and this is part and parcel to the lineaged initiation process I have discussed in the previous article. There is a strong filiality required of lineaged initiates, and a peculiarity with prior masters which requires one to love them, if one is to make any progress. During one of our discussions he mentioned this in passing. “Do you think I would have been able to pull the incredible insights from the I Ching if I didn’t respect Fu Hsi and King Wen? I wouldn’t have been allowed to touch it.”

Years later, right before I was about to take on the task of writing the MAT book, I stumbled across a Kabbalistic way of arranging the verses of Genesis, called the “32 Paths of Wisdom and Genesis.” There is a ton of old Kabbalistic knowledge coming out today in our information age, and it’s putting a lot of the old, lineaged ideas, to shame, especially old aeon orders like the O.T.O., (earthly manifestation of) the A.’.A.’. and even the Golden Dawn, since, the doctrines they promote are being outed as mutant bastards, based on a whole bunch of hearsay, assumptions and outright nonsense.

I didn’t want to put my stamp on Pentagrammaton by calling it something naft, like “Izi’s Pents” but I did want to call attention to this parallel, and as I am Hebrew, certainly it’s a personal stamp. So, all we did was take the numerical order of the 32 Paths of Wisdom and afix them to the Pents. What happens when we do this is we get an affirmation of the ordering of the Elements in Western Magick – the lines begin, through Pents 1-2 “Elohim created, and his Ruach.” According to the Pents elemental nature, who is Elohim and what is his Ruach (“spirit”)? Fire of Heaven, then Fire of Wind – this is Fire the Father and Air the Son, to any classical Hermetic Alchemist who is paying attention.

There are yet at least a hundred other mysteries within these paired Pentagrams and verses, but I’ll need to wait until I have some classically trained Hermetic Alchemists listening before I begin pointing them out in the next few years of the curriculum. Three key edits were made, just for the sake of clarity – the sea is called by its Sumerian name, Tiamat, and certain Hebrew words such as Ruach and Rak’ia have not been translated (usually they are interpreted as Spirit and Sky respectively, but our idea of what the sky is has changed tremendously in the past century, and the word Spirit is too often used to refer to the element of Akasha in Hermeticism.)
