There are different orderings of the four (or five) elements, and in the 12 banners system, for example, every possible ordering is examined. In the doctrine of the Four Elemental worlds, sometimes overlaid on the Tree of Life, there are two common orderings which will be covered below.
Traditionally, according to most doctrines you will encounter, Fire always comes first, followed by Air then either Water or Earth. (Spirit, whence from Fire arises, self-created, does not come into being, its essential nature is unborn and eternal and is usually assigned the place of Ain Soph Aur when the Four Elemental Worlds are aligned along the Qabbalistic Tree of Life.) It depends on whether we are descending by gender or by generation. In the generation descension, Fire and Water come out first, because they are the oldest. In gender descension, Fire and Air come out first, because they are male in nature. Heaven precedes Earth in that lineup of elements. In all Alchemical discussions, Being precedes Matter. Since you’ll run into at least 2 predominant arrangements for *four elemental worlds* with virtually no rational explanation for either of them, it can be difficult to trust which one is real or useful.
Getting clear on this topic is vitally important since this is where the magickal universe begins; this is our *starting assumption* from which all other 4-elemental rationales proceed. Indeed the Tree of Life itself is built upon these starting assumptions, yet there has been almost nothing published in the form of a coherent thesis explaining why the Four Elemental Worlds might align one way vs another. What I will now reveal is one for the history books, a powerfully lucid and relevant solution. Lately I have been getting a lot of requests for more information about initiation. It’s not surprising to me – many are unfamiliar with these classical Hermetic concepts, which are stripped out of, or just missing, from revisionist texts. The concept of initiation is so basic to Hermetic praxis, some of the older texts presume that one understands what is meant by the term. While self-initiation is always a respected process in the Hermetic ouevre, there is a very clear difference between self-initiation alone, and initiation into a lineage.
I suspect not everyone will be interested in the latter, and that’s perfectly fine – our focus has always been on self-initiation – lineaged initiation only becoming possible by two things: m1thr0s’ decision to formalize Mutational Alchemy as school, rather being a mere practice or book on a particular hybridized branch of Hermetic Alchemy, and second, a student dedicated enough to spend 10 years in a formalized student-teacher relationship with him. We still offer Mutational Alchemy lessons to new students, because it was always that way around here, but after doing this for a few years, it became clear that self-initiation was not enough. Individuals were struggling with the concepts surrounding Mutational Alchemy. We figured out that if we did not form a lineage and continue this praxis, we would not be able to return to the work later on, for example if reincarnation is a reality, and we had some suspicions that this was the case. I am certain of it, actually, but one should always doubt one’s own certainties.)
What is Initiation?
Initiation, according to Oxford English Dictionary, is “1.1 The action of beginning, entering upon, or ‘starting’ something; the fact of being begun; beginning, commencement, origination.” So right away we can see that the key ingredient here is intent, really the seed element of magick itself – conscious action. The definition also means that everyone can be initiated – the act of will, deciding to practice magick, is an initiation in and of itself. What about the higher echelons of gnosis, can anyone access them and be initiated into the highest realizations? Our answer will always be a resounding yes. It may not be easy, but the simple axiom “Every Man and Every Woman is a Star” should be enough for us to presume that every man and every woman is capable of initiation into the highest mysteries of stars, or more accurately, self-made universe. Buddhism has maintained from the very beginning that enlightenment – gnosis in the West, happens in an instant, and can be triggered by seemingly random, insignificant things.
The Abrahadabra Institute has always prided itself on self-initiation, as a way of bypassing all of the fluffy bullshit and rigmaroles that old-aeon organizations such as AMORC, The Golden Dawn and BOTA make their members go through. These initiatory practices can be powerful – only inasmuch as the particular initiate is powerful. So at all times our goal is to raise power, and we do this with several tools. The focus is to hack away the inessentials and achieve *Maximum Inertia* and *Minimum Stress* – perfect equilibrium despite the forces under our control. Tools like the Da’ath hack, TwinStar and TwinTrees offer us a way to achieve this equilibrium, at least for a short time. The more one works with the mirrors the more this effect becomes manifest. They are, in effect, reflections of the perfect Man – all of them are you, at least at some level of your being. It may be lying face down in the mud buried under a ton of garbage that one has accumulated, but it is there inside you, somewhere. The function of the mirrors is described in the title – it allows one to see one’s self as they truly are – beyond the lower rungs of the Body of Light (the physical body.)
The Heart of the Master
Between the worlds, beyond consciousness and being, there lies a force that is likened to the greatest, most authoritative, all-powerful Master across all time and space – the so-called Heart of the Master. It has also been referred to as the Logos in Hellenic thought, Ehyeh ’ăšer ’ehyeh, (I Am that I Am) in Israel, and the Tao by the Chinese. Although the conceptualization of this mysterious secret heart differs slightly from civilization to civilization where it has been identified, the essential aspect of its identity: omniscience and omnipresence is undisputed. It is possible that it is nearly omnipotent, but this omnipotence is split between two great aspects of intelligence with equally matched power, Yin and Yang. These are all mere theories. The loftiness of the concept prevents any concrete knowledge. The goal of all initiatory praxis is to achieve singularity, at least for a moment, with this sacred heart. This is the goal of the Great Work, or Magnum Opus, and the purpose and function of the Philosopher’s Stone.
Where a civilization has identified this overarching force, it is also accompanied by theories on a way to achieving harmony with it. The Israelites composed and followed the way through mysticism – prayer, ritual, study and righteousness (right thinking, right action, as it is called in the East.) The Hellenic people pursued the Logos through analytical study, philosophy and other intellectual pursuits using the basic premise that the way is supremely logical, and reflecting this nature is the best way to emulate it. The Taoists in China composed poetry in the form of Zen koans and so forth, in order to show the way, and the I Ching and T’ai Hsuan Ching – these were studies of the code of the way. This turned out to be right on point – our entire DNA strand reflects the structure of the I Ching, as I have discussed before in DNA and the I Ching Explained.
The basis of Hermeticism was the initiation process into this great mystery of the intelligence that was the Logos, personified as Hermes in some cases. Much of the great mystery school doctrine has been lost, due to iconoclasm, but we do know that initiation formed the backbone of their popularity. Where today, religion is mostly an empty ritual that mimics the old rites, Hermetic, Mithraic and Eleusinian mysteries used *real* sacrament and *real* phenomenon as a scaffolding for their way of life and that way of life included ecstatic rites. Today Hermeticism has lived on in many ways, from rave festivals that reflect the Dionysian and Eleusinian parties, to the preservation of Hermetic texts and grimoires in the Western tradition. Scientific and philosophical discourse, the legacy of Hermeticism, is everywhere in our world, not just in a few cities, and all nations benefit from advances in knowledge, very rapidly, without political barrier.
While physical alchemy evolved into modern chemistry, internal alchemy has remained in a state of abysmal stagnation since the beginning of the Enlightenment era. Philosophy, science and politics have advanced by leaps and bounds, while nothing has been done on the subject of Hermetic Alchemy for hundreds of years. The last major update that Kabbalah received was in the work of Isaac Luria; the tarot, with Eliphas Levi; the star thesis of human evolutionary dharma, Aleister Crowley (one could certainly argue that Isaac Luria’s thesis is a proto-star theory, especially considering the emphasis on Ain Soph Aur, the introduction of Da’ath and other very crucial keys to Body of Light theory.) In recent times, Ray Sherwin birthed Chaos Magick, while Anton Lavey ignited the Left Hand Path. Both of these new ideas have something to do with internal alchemy, but they have not yet found their bearings. I expect that in time these will attract more and more attention, as they recognize, within their doctrine, a fundamental reality about Man that many old aeon organizations have forgotten: we want to be free, and powerful. Power is almost always a dirty word in occult organizations, and it even shows in the OTO as a sort of lackluster effort to de-emphasize the third chapter of the Book of the Law as well as not mentioning any swear words like: satanism, sex, authority, combat, martial theurgy or anything that might possibly drag them out of the previous aeon.
This is where The Abrahadabra Institute diverges from the normal party line, quite sharply. The essence of Chaos Magick and Satanism are welcomed here, if not so much the dogmas and hurf-blurfing that has cropped up around the two circles. Namely, for Chaos Magick, what we like is the principle of freedom in magick, being able to adjust our methodology on the fly without any regard for traditions, rules, or standards – especially where these are holding us back from power, brilliance and ecstasy. Satanism has largely declined into puerile horseshit in the last few decades, and has nothing in common with us, but the roots in classical left-hand path ideology are obvious, that is, the emphasis on the sinister, and an adversarial asana to entire universe itself, with the aim of exerting our Will. This is directly connected to the secret inner head of our order, spoken of extensively in some areas of the forum. There is some elitism here. This doesn’t mean we have to be assholes to anybody, or anything like that, but we won’t lower our standards. This wouldn’t make a whole lot of sense anyways, since all Mutational Alchemy requires is the ability to count to ten. People tend to attach a lot of unnecessary complications to it that throws them off course, or they get distracted from the praxis by an overemphasis on the peculiarities of the meditations. This is usually just a distraction from the goal, which is gnosis. Without the initial motivation to do something, anything, instead of constantly being lead around like sheep, nothing will happen. That’s usually the demon people are grappling with – “there’s nothing to it, it’s all a bunch of bullshit” whispering at the back of the mind. I have seen persons go well out of their way to try and prove this subconsciously and it’s pretty stupid to watch. They usually end up being very lazy practitioners who cannot follow simple instructions which would lead them to the gnosis they hope for.
Are We There Yet?
The time it takes to earn an initiation depends on the goal, the choices you make along the way, your true will, and how hard you are willing to work at it. Many kinds of initiation, those linked to one godform or another, for example, have their corresponding organization, as it is with the Vaishnavites and ISKCON, for example, or the Catholic Church and the Franciscans, but the initiation which grants certain heightened levels of gnosis is notoriously spontaneous. In the West these people are called adepts, Other organizations offer initiation based on the judgement of one’s peers – only involving Man in the process, as it is within Masonic, Satanic and Golden Dawn organizations. Some organizational initiations take years to achieve, and are managed by higher ups in that organization, for example, most martial arts lineages. Many lineages include rituals that go along with the initiation, that can last anywhere from a moment of trial (such as in the Bujinkan) or a few hours, as with many Masonic grades. For those curious about The Abrahadabra Institute initiation for students, I will lay this all out below. Keep in mind we do not provide organizational initiation on demand. I have had new members want to show up to my house and be “initiated” but there is no initiation for new members beyond what is performed when your certificate is produced.
Our certificate is sealed with silver wax, using our TwinStar emblem. The process of creating and sealing the certificate involves a kind of ping – the intelligences that we serve analyze everyone and give me feedback on what sort of an individual – a star – you are, and I proceed from there to determine your coursework. This is an on-the-fly type of initiation process that would only be allowable by a dedicated Hierophant or Priestess – the Magus. The method has never failed me to this date on illuminating the qualities of one or another individual. We believe that it is divine providence that leads one to TAI, and that we are concealed from those who are unworthy, so this initiation is already the result of a prior initiation process that has occured, one that you may or may not have noticed! This sort of initiation is not spoken of very often, but it is one of the more important ways we have at our disposal of filtering out the wrong sorts of people. The Jewish Rabbis use this to great effect by refusing curious converts three times. Nowadays another explanation has been invented explaining why this happens the way it does, but in essence it’s a way for H’ashem to refuse them, or for potential problems to find their way to the surface. H’ashem is the inner head of the order, in the Hebrew religion.
The Abrahadabra Institute initiates members, but, becoming a member of the Institute does not mean you are part of our lineage, just as someone on the exclusive invitation list of the Rites of Eleusis was not necessarily an Eleusinian Hierophant. It is not necessary to be initiated into TAI itself to reap the benefits of learning from us, and not everyone is going to be fully aligned with our lineage. Initiation into certain lineages aligns one to the forces that govern those lineages. Someone who wishes to be initiated into The Abrahadabra Institute lineage, is a person who is no longer interested in pursuing any other path or lineage. That is why the initiation takes place after 3 years, and requires two graded tests, one ungraded test, and several essays. Initiation into our organization at the level of Mutational Alchemist is a privilege. It isn’t just handed out to anyone who wants it. Why the fuck would we want to do that? Even the initial neophyte initiation carries some requirements with it, but the title of Mutational Alchemist requires a certain amount of in person training and observation, to make sure you meet our quality standards. Initiation as a Mutational Alchemist will never be granted remotely, and it will not be granted just because you ask or you are in a hurry to get it. After the third year, further grades of initiation are rigorous and will require a lot of work on your end, but they will also introduce you to the most powerful meditation practice that this world, or any other world, has to offer. If anyone wants a fast track to enlightenment in any trash lineage, feel free to join an organization that specializes in sloppy, and never updates its methodology as there’s plenty of them out there.
I have no doubt that limiting access to a perceived occult value will piss some people off, or frustrate them, but I don’t really give a damn. If rank and lineage are to have a place at TAI they need to actually mean something, and therefore we won’t hand them out to every demanding newbee off the streets who thinks they are entitled to it.
So how does this special TAI initiation happen? Once the testing is completed, then students will be invited to our initiation rituals. This is done in person and once a year, for all third year students who want to graduate. The process takes about 3 days and you will be taken to a secret location for the initiation. More details will be explained in the years to come.
How Long Does it Take, and What if I Fuck Up?
While it takes about 3 years for an official initiation into the Abrahadabra Institute, self initiations can be spontaneous, there’s really no way to measure them. Intentionally setting out on a path is a form of initiation as I have already discussed earlier. Intensive study and practice means everything in this work. Not everyone is cut out for that and this is only as it should be. When working with the mirrors especially, which are self-initiation gadgets, basically, they will meet you more than halfway. It is not untoward to work on a mirror for up to 8 hours at a time, especially when we are partaking of sacraments. This sort of dedication can and has caused outright miracles to occur. I’ve seen it before and heard others share their stories about the TwinStar efficacy when used with strong intent and need.
So the answer is, it’s really up to you. No one can know your own dharma or path better than you yourself do. Gnothi Seauton.
As for the dangers of initiation – the shamanic death, for example, a well known initiation process with particular side effects, has always been fraught with imagined perils, this is why so many often fail the initiation process. Letting go of fear is crucial to apprehending an initiation, especially the major ones. Nothing in life is completely safe, but learning to trust your tools is part of the process of preparing for the mental asana of not being afraid of anything. These questions don’t really become an issue for an experienced Magus, archaic or modern. In the past this was all done with the vehicles of the previous aeon; the religions of that aeon, the pomp of ceremony and certain archaic tools. We still use these today but they are not enough to engage the velocities we are aiming for here with our focus on Abrahadabra rather than merely the Sephiroth. Once a Magus reaches the apex of the praxis at year three, he or she has already seen what the tools in Mutational Alchemy can do and this reduces the fear factor that kills the experience. In other words – the study time and experience matters, this is exactly why we don’t do lineage initiations, as we derive our authority from some pretty spooky cats, and they don’t tolerate boring assholes or cowards. The student needs that time to grow, learn and mature.
On Saturday I was handed the answer to a question which has been puzzling me for some time. How many unique triangles, including triangles with triangles within them, are inside the Abrahadabra Grid? I needed some help from math whizzes as I wasn’t about to spend all weekend tracing copies of the Abrahadabra Grid. So I asked a subreddit full of just such math whizzes what the answer was. The formula, for those of you who are into this sort of thing, is below.
After I received the answer, I felt pretty great, now I had one more piece of the grand puzzle of Abrahadabra, but also a little lame since I couldn’t figure out the solution myself. (Not likely, since I majored in Art to Advanced Art III throughout highschool and took the bare minimum of Algebra I.) I gave the two key problem solvers Reddit Gold. Throughout my inquiry I was reticent to discuss anything in particular about the vanilla grid I had posted to them, shown below in its full glory. The image I posted to the group only shows the 100 triangles.
After I gave out the gildings, I received an astonishing and eloquent letter from one of the two recipients of the gilding. (The full correspondence is here, and yes he does have a silver tongue…not very many people outside of TAI can convince me to write an article in response to their query – but I was convinced that this mathematically disposed fellow could easily surpass my understanding in Mutational Alchemy if I could expose him to m1thr0s’ work…)
Your generosity is delightful and honestly made my day, many sincere thanks for the gold! I took the opportunity to check out your account, and it looks like you’re interested in more than a few interesting things yourself!
One of your recent comments stood out to me in particular. In a thread on the nature of Daath and the alleged Qliphoth, you note that you see the two trees as one aspect of a single tree.
This is an idea I have been grappling with myself lately, and I wonder if you might share with me another sort of gold and enlighten me as to your understanding of the tree?
Specifically, it seems as though many tarot decks hint at this same fact, that the two trees, knowldege of good and evil along with the tree of life, are two aspects of a single tree. I have been working with a somewhat obscure deck recently, the Sacred Rose Tarot, which seems to be using this mystery as its central theme.
But appealing to more common currents, when I look at the High Priestess of the standard RWS, I see the two pillars, with the Priestess herself as the central column. Yet also behind her visage is the virginal veil bearing yet another image of the tree in the form of palms and pomegranates, with Her lunar crown in the position of Daath. So there is the tree of which she herself is the central pillar and then there is the tree upon the veil.
This theme of the double tree can also be seen across many cards in many decks, but seems most clear in the Tower. The King and Queen flank the central pillar, but then the lightning takes the form of the flaming sword, indicating another tree. This is even more clear in the BOTA version, where the lightning takes again the form of the Flaming Sword, and, obscured by the prana like clouds above the queen, ten yods take the form of the tree of life. This almost implies 3 trees- the tower + king + queen, the lightning, and the yods.
This is even more pronounced in the golden dawn tarots of both Wang-Regardie and the Ciceros. Both of these versions show two trees clearly (one being the qliphoth) and one being the tree of life, with a central tower and a king and queen on the left and right. Cicero’s deck has the symbol of Mars stricking the tower, which makes enough sense, but Regardie keeps to the theme of the flaming sword bringing about the “calamity”. So there is a subtle implication of up to 4 trees in the vision provided by Uncle Al’s old secretary.
As I am sure you have noticed, the lightning itself, and not the tower, takes the most central and conspicuous place in the Crowley-Harris rendition, but here again the towers is also present, again implying at least a duplicity of trees.
I could go on and on, though such is clearly unwarranted. But again, while you asked for my expertise, I humbly ask for your wisdom in kind. Can you help me to understand this concept of the two trees as one, and how this somewhat illusory concept of the qliphot fits in, even though you clearly don’t buy into the concept yourself.
I am immensely grateful for the gilding, and am happy to have helped you! Now I would humbly ask that you bestow upon me a gold greater than that found in all the earth, but wholly accept if, for whatever reason, you cannot.
All the best!
There has been a tremendous amount of research done on this subject here at The Abrahadabra Institute, under the leadership of our founder, Magister Ouroboros 729 as he preferred to be called, or m1thr0s 729. Since you are familiar with Crowley it may be helpful to point out that he was initiated by Grady McMurtry and left the O.T.O. shortly after Hymenaeus Alpha’s death, for reasons I will not go into in great detail here, and I will try to keep this backstory only as long as necessary for you to get a full view of the origins of this work and what we are all about. First a photo of him so we know who we are talking about visually.
He began studying the occult in his early teens, and at the time that I made the decision to join him in his work as his lover and eventual wife, I had known him for 10 years already, and had been studying his work alongside many others at abrahadabra.com for about 10 years with varying degrees of understanding. Although we had merely had a casual flirting relationship before this, after I became completely absorbed and fascinated with his work, we had fallen madly in love due to our shared love of intellectual pursuits, especially Hermeticism and the discipline he had pioneered called Mutational Alchemy – a hybridized branch of Hermetic Alchemy. As it turned out, since I had been born to a witch and sorceress familiar with Crowley and his ilk in her own right, he also viewed me as an asset in his intellectual pursuits. Because he had been studying the occult without halting for over 40 years, you can imagine among other things it was an incalculably interesting and rewarding relationship for me up until his death on December 26th 2016.
Now to the lengthy answer to your question. So much of what we do here at TAI is focused on building on the understanding of those who are already here, it seems all of the introductory texts to what makes Abrahadabra.com special get buried under more advanced, or tertiary, essays and videos, that treat offhand subjects of not direct interest to TAI’s core discipline of Mutational Alchemy. For true intellectuals, and lovers of numbers, in the Pythagorean tradition, this is where the real treats are to be found. The proofs I am about to go over with you are utterly astounding and I know you will appreciate them as much as I do and a few rare individuals with just the right mix of knowledge and understanding who come across this stuff, although they are just completely lost on the vast majority of those who come to us for our tarot deck or just for a sense of belonging to an ooey occult organization with a dangerous looking sigil at its helm.
The first major observation that m1thr0s 729 made, at some point in the 1970’s, shortly after his departure from the dysfunctional O.T.O., who had no interest in his work anyways, was that the Sephiroth/Tree of Life fits within a talisman of the highest order he created called the Abrahadabra Grid. (Note that in the image below, if you highlight all of the Sephiroth and the Ain Soph Aur Coordinate, it spells ABRAHADABRA!)
This came about through the dedicated research he was doing into the alchemical formula of Abrahadabra at the time. He observed the importance with which the praeter-human intelligence of Ra Hoor Khut treated it, announcing it in the first line of his chapter, and designating it as a *reward.* This alone was enough to key him into its importance. This is the grid you solved with the formula you gave me. Here it is, below, in its full glory for you to observe.
Note that the Tree of Life’s Sephira are affixed upon the intersecting lines of the grid as if it was made for it. According to Crowley, as you might recall, Abrahadabra emerges from the Tree, not the other way around, but this proof clearly demonstrates that he was wrong. The Star gives rise to the Tree, not the other way around! Additionally, the Four Elemental Worlds cascade from apex at Ain Soph Aur itself and fit perfectly within the entirety of Abrahadabra. The dark grey triangles mirror the structure of the Tetractys of the Decad – we refer to these per m1thr0s’ naming conventions as *The Secret Chiefs*. The only *Secret Chief* that touches a Sephira is centered at the groin area of the Adam Kadmon, the shadowy figure in the center of the Abrahadabra Grid, and appears to uphold Tiphareth. There are countless other secrets in this, one of the master formulas of Mutational Alchemy, but this is as far I will go into this particular map for the moment, as I have a lot more to cover.
You asked about the “two trees” and say you have been wondering about three, or even four trees. Although we have not answered the question of the third or fourth tree with any certainty, I can fill in more than a few huge blanks that you might have been missing. The first concept I want to introduce you to is one that is newer than the TwinTrees which I will cover below, but it is the logical first step towards understanding that master formula. If one connects all of the Sephiroth via paths that are “not there” we find that the image is rather stunningly beautiful. More than this, there are exactly 16 paths all together, corresponding not only to the 16 Court Cards, but to the 16 Geomantic figures of Medieval Europe and the 16 personality types of C.G. Jung. We discovered this independently during our research on the Mutational Alchemy Tarot, which is why it figures so prominently in that deck, since the way we use sigils and talismans is different from any other meditative discipline on Earth, and we discovered it had some very intriguing properties when used with a methodology we call scryation and the building of Mutational Fields. (Mutationism is the professional term for those who study the science of change within binary or ternary structures, i.e., the I Ching) There’s a whole series of articles and charts pertaining to this structure, and very few people have noticed this structure over the centuries. It was documented only twice in literature that we know of, and never given any proper attention for whatever reason. Those two people who mentioned it are now dead and didn’t name it, so we gave it a name: The Hidden Diamond Sutra, after its presentation as an exotic diamond and its value to us. It is named a Sutra to emphasize to neophytes a different way of thinking about Sutra as merely a doctrine framed within literature.
The mere fact that we could use it to unify both the Court Cards and the Geomantic Figures along with the Jungian personality types was enough for us to justify utilizing it in the Tarot, but m1thr0s also discovered that it crossed Da’ath, functioning as a precise and powerful weapon with which a Mutational Alchemist can launch an assault on Da’ath from all directions, rather than wading through it from the Abyss, something which has haunted those who work with the Tree of Life for generations. (See the Da’ath Hack article on the forums, under The Book of Mirrors)
The last doctrine we will go over is possibly the one that will attend to your questions as far as I can go within this short article, and it constitutes the master formula of Mutational Alchemy itself. This is the doctrine of the Twin Trees, which is an advanced set of Sephiroth paired to the I Ching. There have been at least half a dozen variations of this formula over the years in both single and twin form, (for reference, in order of creation they are called the *P’an Ku or Heaven Descending*, the *Nu Kua or Earth Ascending*, *The Emerald Tablet*, The TwinTrees Prototype A and Prototype B [obsolete, kept in the archives for historical purposes, these were created in the search for the Temporals or a possible third Tree] and finally the TwinTrees Primordial and TwinTrees Temporals) but the two that concern us the most to this date are the *TwinTrees: Primordial* and the *TwinTrees: Temporal*. The Mutational Alchemy Tarot itself is built on the framework of the Primordials. As we may remember it was Eliphas Levi who first thought of affixing the Tarot to the Tree of Life. While Aleister Crowley made a haphazard attempt at affixing some of the trigrams to the Tree of Life, he did so in such a sloppy nonsensical half-assed way as to render the attempt almost useless, and it was not ordered with any mathematical precision. He seemed to be oblivious to the nature of binary ordering, even though this knowledge would have been made available to him via the work of the much earlier genius of G.W. Leibniz.
One unfamiliar with the work of Leibniz or binary ordering in general might ask, how does one affix the Hexagrams in a rational way to the Tree of Life at all? This is a good question and lies in the way we assign numerical value to the binary structures, and to a little rule m1thr0s discovered called The Proximity Principle. Both of these will be covered in great detail in his upcoming book and will be taught in the upcoming March coursework, and a booklet has already been published on this material as well as a discussion available for free within the Mutational Alchemy Tarot Book itself, so it is really a subject for another time, but suffice it to say it allows us to determine in what order we should place the ATU and Hexagrams alike based on their inherent numerical value, and this determines where they are placed on the tree using the Proximity Principle.
The prime difference between the Primordials and the Temporals is that in the Primordials, the Hexagrams emerge and are affixed without any acknowledgement to Sephirothic primacy, they ascend on the left side (Earth Ascending) and descend on the right side (Heaven Descending) and this pays homage to both the Chinese observation of the natural tendencies of Heaven and Earth, as well as the placement of male and female elements in the West. (For example the Left Pillar on the Tree of Life is female, the Right is male, the right hand of the body is masculine, the left feminine and so on…) In the Temporals, special attention is paid to the Sephiroth, so that the paired Hexagrams with the nature of being reciprocal inverses (naturally, in the chronologies, this is not artificially arranged) are affixed in a rational ordering to the Sephiroth themselves first, and then the remainder of the Hexagrammal pairs are laid out according to the previously discussed Proximity Principle and binary value.
These two great charts are shown below for anyone to see for themselves what an astonishing and marvelous impact these will have on both the I Ching and the world of Hermetic Qabbalah.
For an even more astonishing expose on just how perfectly these hexagrams are aligned with Western Hermetic Alchemy and Qabbalah, it’s suggested one examine the full range of the Tarot correspondences, both traditional and the new Mutational Alchemy ordering, where the Emperor has been corrected to be placed properly (with his new letter of Tzaddi, connecting him with the Liber Tzaddi transmission) instead of the Star. This was executed according to the Proximity Principle and it’s laws governing the rational ordering of the Hebrew letter system which Crowley failed to attend to, simply because he didn’t have the tools the scholars of antiquity used to formulate the Tarot correspondences that come down to us through the Golden Dawn lineage. (See the section on The Emperor in the MAT book for a detailed explanation. http://abrahadabra.com/mutational-alchemy-tarot-book/atu-xvii-the-emperor/)
I hope this little ditty has answered some of the more pressing questions that I hope more than a few of you are having. None of the assertions that we make here are based on guesswork, but on careful scholarly work and much time and effort has been put forth to assist anyone in handling this work for themselves in order that they might experience the amazing effects that m1thr0s 729 encountered decades before and than so many have testified to in working with this strong and powerful monstrosity of a system. It has so many secrets laying beneath its surface that we will certainly not see the end of its mystery in my lifetime, or the next few dozen generations is my guess. There is also a ton of work I have not discussed right here, but this is the core doctrine we adhere to around here that both deviates sharply from most other schools out there, yet is exceedingly attractive to those who are coming from old and stale Western traditions with seemingly no clue in sight as to where to go to next. “It furthers one to have somewhere to go.” the I Ching.
Those who understand and appreciate this stuff will do so because they have the faculty to understand it at a fundamental and mathematical level and can check all of the godamned proofs for themselves. The detractors will whine on and on about how it “isn’t what Crowley believed” or that it is merely another New Age attempt at degrading their traditions, but those who understand and appreciate progress will see that this sort of work is the breath of fresh air Hermetic Alchemy has needed desperately for over a century now. The problem with tradition and the I Ching is nonexistent since the Chinese government has been actively hostile towards the mere mention of the I Ching for over a hundred years now, so that even my modern friends in China have never even heard of the I Ching and they are mostly forbidden from discussing it in depth, even though we now know that the underlying mathematics forms the backbone of the DNA code itself (See my article under the I Ching section: DNA and the I Ching explained, or Yan’s book DNA and the I Ching) The same goes for detractors on the scientific spectrum. They will all play catch up with this eventually, just as they did in 1952 with the official discovery of the DNA strand by Watson and Crick.
“Dedicated evolutionists don’t much give a shit about the misconceptions of lesser mortals…they are already engaged in an aggressive dialog with nature itself at the highest levels…and they usually know this.[…] Proponents of modern science are routinely guilty of imagining that it is uniquely qualified to evolve and has therefore earned some special privilege to redefine its own parent disciplines in as pejorative a light as possible, as if the clock had somehow stopped for them. This may impress a few, for a time, but necessity is still the mother of invention. At the end of the day, Metaphysics will perpetually rediscover and redefine itself with or without the approval of modern science as mandated by the needs of real people in real time, attempting to answer the same questions that have been with us from the beginning. “

I’ll leave it here since this article is already getting too long, but rest assured the proverbial rabbit hole does get a whole lot deeper than this for those who are brave enough to go there and who have the patience to continue receiving directives and dialogue from both necessity and Nature himself. We have never made a secret of our source work, but neither have we pretended that this work did not desperately need bright minds working on it and the further secrets that Mystery itself holds in hands, the promise of the future evolutionary dharma of our species and our theoretical starhood, encapsulated in the axiom *Every Man and Every Woman is a Star*.
Attaining stellar consciousness is the all important, governing focus here at TAI – not even ordinary theurgy, nor, ideas of theurgy, will do. Following the Book of the Law to the letter, barely even scratches the surface, and Crowley has been dead for over a century. The simon-says approach to Thelema or Completion is intolerable, and dangerous for star theory. It’s poisoned the word Thelema so that we cannot even use it with good faith. We need to look forward and press on, into the void. There are discoveries that must be uncovered, like lost diamonds laying in wait for anyone with the resolve to go out on the uncharted territory and find them. […] This trend of non-interest in scholarly trailblazing continued throughout the late nineties and early millennium, into the present day. The work at the O.T.O. has mostly become a cataloguing endeavor, as if the purpose of the work was to forever buzz around Aleister Crowley’s shit like flies.
No one at the O.T.O. has ever contacted us concerning the new doctrine of Abrahadabra, even though he was prepared to counter any questions about the model, those questions never came. I spoke to m1thr0s about it at length several times. “We’re talking about the reward of Ra Hoor Khut, right…and these people could care less about that. I was astounded at how little had been accomplished since A.C. bit the dust. When I showed them the research I had done to apply the Tree to the Star, they basically just said “that’s nice” and that was it. They were more interested in orgies and parties. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, I mean, they’re fun and everything, but when it becomes the only thing, then there’s no difference between the O.T.O. and say, what the Church of Satan is doing now, which is exactly where I saw things going – a dead end. I wasn’t receiving any support for my work, so I left.” he stated. […]He continued: “And I was ready for them, man. About the same time that you (Izi) were getting on board with this stuff, I was in attack mode, waiting for a complete war to break out over the assertions I was backing with Abrahadabra itself. It never happened, but the material I was revealing from my work was a smash hit with everyone else. [Continue Reading…]
It’s headed by a massive article commissioned by m1thr0s 729 and written by Izi Ningishzidda, intended as an update and facelift to the older and hopelessly outdated old thread header. m1thr0s had created that information way back in 2001, detailing the few known attributes of this significant deity. After years of study and digging through the stacks, this academic information now forms the core of our knowledge about Ningishzidda, who he is, who his family is, and why it might make any difference to occultists and especially Thelemites. We have always known he directly relates to Abrahadabra in some very unusual ways, but those coincidences and synergy kept rolling in long after m1thr0s discovered the name matched Abrahadabra’s numeration in the Qabbala of the Nine Chambers. Feel free to join in the conversation if you are a member of The Abrahadabra Institute!
One of the very first tasks m1thr0s set me upon is the research into the Lo Shu Square and its nine elements. While at the large downtown Memphis library, I set about some extracurricular activity on one of our favorite subjects, the god Ningishzidda. The results of that journey lead me to some pretty amazing stuff, and after some time, he tasked me on creating a large replacement article for the old “Ningishzidda Rising” thread he had started a long time ago. I can’t imagine a more volatile and charismatic godform, especially one that has personally touched so many of the lives of my comrades or rivals in magick – many times in disturbing and violent ways. I first came across his name when m1thr0s[…]
The caduceus is centered at the lip of the beaker so that liquid seems to pour from the top of the caduceus. With their scorpion tails, twining ophidian bodies, eagle taloned hind feet, the dangerous and divinely crowned creature supports and upholds the double twined serpents who represent Ningishzidda. In the Enûma Eliš, the Babylonian creation epic, Tiamat is said to have “clothed the raging lion-dragons with fearsomeness”. The winged lion dragon is considered to be so powerful as to be unrivalled in battle, hence its name also became a noun used to describe ultimate rulers. Similar in shape to the Mushussu, the Usumgallu would probably safely be considered a variant of the Mushussu, but it does have wings. The scorpion’s stinger is borrowed from another denizen of the Mesopotamian plains to form a malicious tail, while its hind feet and wings are taken from a raptor.
The style of the dragons became corrupted over time so that the gates of Babalon have a composite between the Mushussu and Usumgallu as the serpentine guardians, while lions, more realistically interpreted, are also present. It is important to note that the Babylonian times came thousands of years after the Sumerians peak and they must be taken in light of this passage of time and the great differences between the Sumerian and Semitic tribes, and even between Assyria and Babylon. Babylon did not worship Ningishzidda or his son Ninazu, known to them as Tispak, in the same way the Sumerians, Assyrians and Elamites did.[read more…]
