the periodic table of alchemy and wizardry

There is a style of thinking in the occult today that I would like to see corrected. Occultists seem to be obsessed with irrelevant things, such as how much a book costs, how old a set of data is, (the more ancient the better) where that person comes from, who rubs shoulders with who.
I ran into this problem recently with someone who considered any metal other than steel, titanium, silver or gold to be useless as ritual jewelry. Pewter was completely out of the question, he said, because it was “cheap!” Most people know that pewter has an ancient and venerable reputation, both as a material of the wealthy, like aluminum, but that each metal has its place in witchcraft and ceremonial magick in turn. Pewter especially has an important connection to the Star Goddess, Nuit, which I will explain here, presently.
Opinions, in and of themselves, have no bearing or relevance to the work we do here at The Abrahadabra Institute. Older occult data is no more authentic and useful than solid new research, just as old scientific theory is not necessarily more useful than the latest lab results that conflict with older theories. Occultists who indulge in these vain and shallow preoccupations, seem to be of the opinion that our body of knowledge is frozen in time, ready to be discovered by anyone willing to pay $500 for the (limited edition) secrets of mystical enlightenment.
Most of the greatest knowledge in the occult can be acquired from a dozen books, all modestly priced and sometimes, sadly, out of print, due to lack of interest, such as the Tai Hsuan Ching translated by Derek Walters. Nobody has yet achieved the goals set forth in many of alchemy’s greatest workings, including myself. These goals of the Great Work are all out there waiting to be accomplished by anyone with the motivation and dedication to attempt them. The byproduct of the struggle, even if they are not achieved, is a very high and valuable class of gnosis. These operations are not widely known, but if they had ever been achieved, the world would be completely different than it is now. This is how we know that they have not yet been accomplished. The results of these operations are theoretical game changers. To figure out how to succeed here, we need to be willing to do the work, just as our species, via one or another intrepid explorer, found the will to work hard to invent the steam engine, the electric light bulb or the space rocket, for example. Our area of study is underfunded and ignored, but so what? Many of technology’s greatest fields of study were completely off the map when some intrepid explorer or inventor decided to throw their life and energy at it. [Continue Reading…]

the ultimate guide to the baphomet

This article is co-authored by izi ningishzidda and m1thr0s 729

“The greatest power in the universe is love, and thus it is so rare. To me, spiritual ascension requires both undefiled wisdom, and the unity of true love to be complete in Baphomet”

I don’t know who wrote that. The blog, “Baphometic Satanism” was taken down over a decade ago. It words linger on only in the form of scattered secondhand quotes. It’s the kind of thing you’ll never hear coming out of Satanic circles these days – not even Luciferians, who have become a rarity anyways.
It is for this reason, and others, that we philosophical Satanists have become a phenomenon of the past. There’s no real point to staying on board a sinking ship.
We’re not so willing to abandon Baphomet, however. It belongs more to alchemists and mages far more than it does to a bunch of atheistic nincompoops who deny magick and all of its trappings. The image of the Baphomet dates back to a time long before Anton Lavey adopted it for his organizational sigil. Eliphas Levi (1810-1875) popularized it in the image shown below.

Levi claimed that he acquired the specificities of the image from accounts of the Templars being tortured by the Catholic Church, and from a gargoyle on one of the buildings built by them. If that’s true, and we have no reason to doubt it, then it is a very offensive image taken at face value. It is not at all clear or convincing that the Templars “worshipped” Baphomet at all. Eliphas Levi in his book ‘Transcendental Magic’ gives Baphomet as being symbolic of Pan.
Eliphas Levi was an idiot in a lot of ways. Sure, there may be symbolic parallels between Baphomet and Pan just as there are between Baphomet and Kernunnos or Baphomet and Gnu for that matter…[Continue this article…]

ningishzidda rising

The old Ningishzidda Rising thread has been reposted within Abrahadabra Forums. Non-members can read a preview below. [Members can skip this intro and read the article now]

It’s headed by a massive article commissioned by m1thr0s 729 and written by Izi Ningishzidda, intended as an update and facelift to the older and hopelessly outdated old thread header. m1thr0s had created that information way back in 2001, detailing the few known attributes of this significant deity. After years of study and digging through the stacks, this academic information now forms the core of our knowledge about Ningishzidda, who he is, who his family is, and why it might make any difference to occultists and especially Thelemites. We have always known he directly relates to Abrahadabra in some very unusual ways, but those coincidences and synergy kept rolling in long after m1thr0s discovered the name matched Abrahadabra’s numeration in the Qabbala of the Nine Chambers. Feel free to join in the conversation if you are a member of The Abrahadabra Institute!

One of the very first tasks m1thr0s set me upon is the research into the Lo Shu Square and its nine elements. While at the large downtown Memphis library, I set about some extracurricular activity on one of our favorite subjects, the god Ningishzidda. The results of that journey lead me to some pretty amazing stuff, and after some time, he tasked me on creating a large replacement article for the old “Ningishzidda Rising” thread he had started a long time ago. I can’t imagine a more volatile and charismatic godform, especially one that has personally touched so many of the lives of my comrades or rivals in magick – many times in disturbing and violent ways. I first came across his name when m1thr0s[…]
The caduceus is centered at the lip of the beaker so that liquid seems to pour from the top of the caduceus. With their scorpion tails, twining ophidian bodies, eagle taloned hind feet, the dangerous and divinely crowned creature supports and upholds the double twined serpents who represent Ningishzidda. In the Enûma Eliš, the Babylonian creation epic, Tiamat is said to have “clothed the raging lion-dragons with fearsomeness”. The winged lion dragon is considered to be so powerful as to be unrivalled in battle, hence its name also became a noun used to describe ultimate rulers. Similar in shape to the Mushussu, the Usumgallu would probably safely be considered a variant of the Mushussu, but it does have wings. The scorpion’s stinger is borrowed from another denizen of the Mesopotamian plains to form a malicious tail, while its hind feet and wings are taken from a raptor.
The style of the dragons became corrupted over time so that the gates of Babalon have a composite between the Mushussu and Usumgallu as the serpentine guardians, while lions, more realistically interpreted, are also present. It is important to note that the Babylonian times came thousands of years after the Sumerians peak and they must be taken in light of this passage of time and the great differences between the Sumerian and Semitic tribes, and even between Assyria and Babylon. Babylon did not worship Ningishzidda or his son Ninazu, known to them as Tispak, in the same way the Sumerians, Assyrians and Elamites did.

memberships now open…

Memberships are now available to the world’s foremost experts on Abrahadabra and the central hub for Mutational Alchemy, the legendary ninth limb of Yoga. The chart below is a quick and dirty synopsis of what we are all about.

Annual Membership card, certificate of membership, lapel pin, mission statement premise print $32

Annual Membership + Mutational Alchemy Tarot $64

For a number of years now, those following The Abrahadabra Institute’s activities over the past 18 years have asked us for official memberships. After a tremendous amount of work having been completed, towards formulating what such a membership might look like, in order to suit the needs of persons interested, we’ve come to the conclusion that the best direction for TAI, much to our founder’s chagrin, is as an educational institution and (co-ed) fraternity – for the purposes of social fun, and thirdly as an initiation gateway into the 418 current. Anything that dares to connect itself with Abrahadabra is necessarily signing up for a rough and fast-paced ride, and we have hitched our wagon to that particular train a long, long time ago. This is certainly optional. Abrahadabra loves loners – our clan consists of the Hermits and the Magus. They don’t need a group. But the path can be lonely and we’re willing to take the heat in representing the 418 current in this world. If you want to join us, fine. If not, we still respect you just as much, fam.
A significant investment of time has been dedicated towards composing a seven year long (open source) curriculum, leading into Mutational Alchemy. We are using an introduction to this steep climb via the foundational elements we had identified over five years ago, and we are very pleased to announce that The Abrahadabra Institute is finally, after all these years, ready to take on the stewardship of a formal membership body.
Almost everyone human with a pulse is welcome to join. While it’s true that we are open to just about everybody, it is not a decision to take lightly. This stuff that we study here is as real as anything, extremely potent, and we can’t be held responsible for the fallout if one joins frivolously and tries to make Abrahadabra some kind of joke or subject to one’s Will.  Below is a link to the comprehensive guide to membership. also on the menu to the left “join TAI.”

The Alchemical Word of Perfection by m1thr0s 729

The above link will answer most pressing questions, but it doesn’t cover all of them. Those who wish to ask questions of us directly should visit the public area of the forums, here: http://abrahadabra.freeforums.net/board/64/pubbies-live and create a new thread or post in the existing Q & A.
This organization is designed to endure for at least a thousand years, depending on circumstances surrounding success towards the Aeon of Hrumachis as defined by Liber al vel Legis. If that sounds like something you are interested in building, we are open to studious, intelligent, patient, dedicated and self-controlled individuals.

m1thr0s, Magister Ouroboros 729, founder of The Abrahadabra Institute and creator of Mutational Alchemy the so-called *Ninth Limb of Yoga*

Any post about opening up memberships to The Abrahadabra Institute would be incomplete without mentioning our founder, who died on December 26th 2016, and who was pushing hard to stay alive for as long as it took to stabilize this body of work and TAI itself, with the intention that I could continue where he left off. The future is going to be a lot of fun here at TAI and you’re not going to want to miss it.

indigenous hellenic religion officially recognized by greek government

Quietly, and without much fanfare, the Greek Government recently approved the indigenous Hellenic religion as a recognized religion, on April 9th, 2017. The official statement, released by the Secretary of the Supreme Council of Ethnic Hellenes, is below

“After more than twenty years of struggle, the Greek state has finally recognized the Hellenic Religion as a «known religion» according to paragraph 17 – the only form of recognition for a religion in Greece. The mentioned paragraph includes the permission to build a temple as well as the right of «public exercise» of any recognized religion. The recognition of Hellenic Religion as a «known religion» is only the first step towards a general recognition of Hellenism. Now the YSEE at Athens is still waiting for recognition as a religious statutory body in Greece. The Supreme council of ethnic Hellenes will approach the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg if the state leaves them no other choice, said its Secretary.”

The group is dedicated to the cause of not only re institutionalizing the freedom to worship their native gods, but to bring about an international recognition of the genocide of the Hellenes by the Eastern Roman Empire and its state church. They are publicly outspoken against racism, nationalism and nazi sympathizers, pointing out the fact that many Odinists were killed alongside Jews and other Pagans during the Holocaust.
As a plains native American Indian myself I was amused to find a photo of a traditional medicine man in full regalia presiding over their meeting. My Greek is terrible and Google translate doesn’t work everywhere so I have no idea what the context of the meeting was, but there is a statement that they wish to “internalize” the “
Declaration of War Against Exploiters of Lakota Spirituality”, which was influential in slightly reducing the amount of offensive profiteering taking place within the United States of America by uninitiated, self-titled “shamans” falsely claiming to be practicing true American Indian beliefs.
The rest of the site is filled with informative articles that can easily be translated into English using Google Translate (right click in chrome and select “translate to English”. There’s also a pleasant photo gallery featuring ritual documentation and pictures of the gods against NASA images.
The webpage insists that it is against any kind of syncretic philosophy or occultism, this may seem restrictive or even tyrannical to many occultists, yet it is a necessity. Even though the Hellenic peoples themselves were highly involved in syncretic activities, merging deities with every culture they conquered, this is not necessarily the best way to go forward for a Hellenic reconstructionist effort today. So much has been lost, fractured and completely destroyed within Hellenic culture that allowing random revisionism to creep in would threaten the stability of what they are trying to achieve.
As it is, The Abrahadabra Institute isn’t interested in religion except in its capacity to instill power and raise the foundation of Man via certain theurgical practices. Nor are we concerned with what religion or atheism our members choose. That being said, groups that are highly specialized, careful, scholarly and interested in an authentic, historical assessment are very useful to us, whether they are theistic or atheistic in nature. Most of the work pertaining to the important deity Ningishzidda, who shares the AIQ BKR Gematria value of 418 with Abrahadabra was fulfilled by the secular Ancient Near East study group Enenuru.net and its founder, emerging Assyriologist Bill McGrath. Without their strict adherence to ancient, original, non-syncretic thought, we would never have been able to unearth important aspects of the godform’s characteristics which can be put to good use in practical theurgy, whether or not one views deities as living beings, merely archetypes useful for theurgical framework, or as a mapping of consciousness nodes.
An affiliate website, in English can be found at http://www.labrys.gr they offer some free information and an inexpensive book on household practice. The praxis outlined on the site parallels traditional Hermetic ritual as preserved within The Golden Dawn, Rosicrucian Order and so on, which was interesting to see. The rest of Europe was following in some form of Pagan worship before the advent of iconoclasm, and many nations were hugely influenced by Hellenic culture, so it is a very important part of the occult dialectic, particularly in the case of Hermetic traditions.

We look forward to seeing further developments in the field of Hellenic studies and a revival of the indigenous religion and mystery cults of Greece.
